Artistic Line Studio is a design studio that works through commission and collaboration to create art objects of the highest artistic and technical quality. We are wife and husband team who collaborated for many years creating site-specific art projects.

Victoria Balva graduated from Art University in Ukraine where she studied monumental and public art and has more then 15 years of art education. Eugene Bakumenko graduated from Civil Academy in Ukraine as a Water Supply Engineer. In 2000 we immigrated to Canada and established our design studio in Toronto

Inspiration and ideas for our work come from the people who live and work where the art will be installed. We start art development from analyzing the historic and architectural environment and purposes of future art object to generate unique solutions that are the most expressive for the particular place.

Our goal is to create art objects, which are an organic part of the architectural and cultural environment. We design art works that would enrich perception of audience and have a strong visual impact.

We explore applications that demand not only decorative affects, but technical creativity as well. We experiment, through our vast knowledge of different materials, techniques, forms of art and art history , to express our contemporary view of the world through three-dimensional manifestations of our thought.

We designed and completed many different projects such as

  • Front entrance foyers and doors

  • Windows

  • Domes and  skylights

  • Kitchen cabinets

  • Suspended decorative glass panels

  • Mosaic murals

  • Floor and wall  inserts

We are capable working with

  • glass (cold, warm and hot glass, stained and leaded glass),

  • stone (marble, granite, sandstone and limestone),

  • metal (bronze, aluminum, copper, stainless steel, steel and cast iron),

  • wood,

  • ceramic,

  • light and water.

We are able to implement the following techniques:

  • Carving (stone, glass, wood),

  • casting (metal, glass),

  • time conservation and restoration,

  • painting (frescos, encaustic, painted glass murals, mosaic and ceramic murals, stained and leaded glass)

  • and among other personally developed techniques and materials

In our practice, we cooperated with architects, interior designers, developers and private collectors.

We strive towards a contemporary portrayal of the world with a timeless appeal. We are dedicated to our goal because the most important point is to create and creation is our motivation to contribute to contemporary culture.
